Perfect for travelers eager to witness a geological marvel unlike anything else on Earth, this tour offers a truly unique experience and is one of the most popular activities in Iceland—early booking is highly recommended to secure your spot.

This season, two spectacular ice caves in the Vatnajökull Glacier are open for exploration: the Eastern Ice Cave and the Western Ice Cave. On this exclusive Guide to Iceland tour, your expert guide will select the best available cave based on weather and visibility conditions, ensuring your safety and maximizing your enjoyment.

The Eastern Ice Cave is awe-inspiring in its sheer scale, standing as one of the largest ice caves discovered in Vatnajökull Glacier in recent years. Meanwhile, the Western Ice Cave enchants visitors with its light-blue walls that create an ethereal, crystal-like atmosphere. Both offer unparalleled opportunities for capturing breathtaking photographs.

Your journey begins at one of Iceland’s most iconic destinations, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a serene lake filled with towering icebergs. From the car park, you’ll meet your expert guide and board a super jeep for an exhilarating ride to Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, one of the prominent glacier tongues of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe.

The monster truck ride from the lagoon into the rugged wilderness of Vatnajökull National Park takes around 30 minutes, offering panoramic views of Iceland’s dramatic landscapes. Upon arriving at the glacier, your guide will equip you with all necessary safety gear before leading you into the mesmerizing Crystal Ice Cave, a world of shimmering blue ice formations and otherworldly beauty.

After approximately 30 minutes of exploring this natural masterpiece, you’ll hop back into the super jeep for a scenic return journey to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. This unforgettable experience combines the thrill of adventure with the chance to witness one of Iceland's most extraordinary attractions up close.

    Please note

Ice Caves are a natural occurrence, formed by the glacier, and changes with the glacier movement and melting of the ice in summer- this may mean the size (even the size of the opening of the cave) can change over time. The cave you see one year may be gone or changed the following year. Our main goal is to visit the Blue Ice Cave as advertised. There are a total of 3-4 Ice Caves we operate from, each one is a little different in appearance, but all of them have some blue in the cave. How blue the color may appear can vary- this can be due to sunlight, and also individual cameras. We may change the cave we intended to visit if rain has lead to flooding, or snow impacts the route. We kindly ask all participants to be understanding if we have to make adjustments due to recent weather. It is for your comfort and safety.

This is suited for ages 8 and up. We may hike for up to 30min over rocky/uneven terrain with varied steepness. This will vary based on the ice cave we visit. This is not suited for anyone with limited mobility. If you are not sure if participation is adviced, please reach out prior to booking. We are happy to advise. ( There is no access for wheelchairs/walkers. Walking sticks may not grip on glacier ice. Guides will not permit holding on to eachother for support as this becomes a safety issue. Please be aware of this before booking)

Driving from Reykjavik to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon takes at least 5 hours. The journey offers some amazing attractions so we advise travelers to arrive the day before the tour so they can explore them along the way. Jeans are not recommended for glacier activities, but warm clothes are.
